Historically Pandora is a Greek mythological character who, out of curiosity, opened a box that sent all the bad things into the world. However, this article is not about her. It's about an online radio site that uses her name. This time, the "box" is spewing awesome things: music! Better yet, it plays the kind of things you like when you want to hear them!
I say the kind of things because that's how Pandora works: you put in the name of an artist or song you want to hear and the site somehow mathematically figures out other music that is a similar style. For example, when I put in the band Panic! At the Disco* it first plays their song "Time to Dance" then it comes up with "The River is Wide" by the Killers and explains how it relates. However, entering the group Black Eyed Peas* has "Pump It" by them followed by "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake.
You can listen as long as you want to as many things as you want completely FREE and completely legally. That may sound surprising, but the key here is that while skipping songs is okay, you can't go BACK to songs you already listened to or listen to specific songs. In that sense it's like regular radio: you never (fully) know what you're going to get. If you make an account (free still) they allow you to bookmark songs to buy on iTunes or listen to 30-second clips of.
I completely and fully support this site! It's:
www.pandora.com
Happy listening!
NOTE: If you wanted some Greek Myths here and are disappointed that you didn't get any, I recommend D'Aulaires book of Greek Myths.
*Bands I don't necessarily what I personally like, these are just distinct sounding groups.
