Hey girls! Hopefully you all had great weekends. It's starting to feel like fall here on the east coast, which I'm excited about because it's favorite time of year! Anyways, on to today's...
GWEB member highlight! This week we're featuring

school infoheading into grade 12 (a senior) ... then off to the scary world of university!
favorites...- band/artist: Our Lady Peace, Death Cab for Cutie, or Ani DiFranco
- movie: I really liked Dirty Dancing Havana Nights, and 21, and Mulan ... I'm happy with anything :)
- book: 1984, I read it for school and it's brilliant!
- food: I'm a chocolate girl.
- color: I recently made the transition from blue to green (changing your favourite color is kind of an identity-shattering process).
inspirational people/role modelsI'm inspired by people who try and make a positive change in the world no matter the cost and who are firm in their beliefs, like Nelson Mandela and Gloria Steinem. I'm also inspired by youth who do incredible things at a really young age, like Craig and Marc Kielburger.
activities/hobbiesI do ashtanga yoga on a pretty regular basis, I try and write sometimes, I like getting into a good book when I have the time, and I love being outside! Oh, and I like surfing around feministy blogs when I'm bored ... www.feministing.com and www.kickaction.ca are my favourites!
hopes and dreamsTo add my tiny contribution to a more peaceful world, to write a book or two, and to live a life where I really challenge myself all the time! In terms of a career ... I'm totally fascinated by politics but I might just settle for a university professor or a journalist or working for an NGO. :)
what inspires you? the vastly different ways people see the world!
what scares you? thinking that I might not be making that big of a difference after all or how damaging humanity can be to our earth (and how little time we have left).
dream travel destinationIreland, Australia & New Zealand, and South Africa.
random/wackyWe have this comedy show in Canada called "Talking to Americans" where a reporter goes down to places likes Stanford and tries to convince people to believe some crazy myths about Canada (like how we send off the elderly on pieces of ice when we find them useless). Sorry guys, but it's a good laugh!
something you are most proud ofStarting my own girls' organization and watching it thrive! (and being able to get through my grade 11 year alive at the same time).
what you love most about orb28how it's making feminist ideas relevant to girls and encouraging discussion about it!
funniest thingThe embarassing things outweigh the funny in my life. :) But a funny one, hmm ... once I got stuck in a tree (there was a tree and the trunk was kind of forked and I was up in the tree getting down, I slipped, and wedged myself horizontally in this fork). I was STUCK ... thrashing my legs, everything. My best friends tried desperately to get me out being the loyal girls that they are, and I did eventually get out, don't worry!
other creative things you do off/onlineblog and I'm a VERY amateur website designer!
anything else you'd like to shareI LOVE tea and raspberries, and when they come together I am one happy girl.
