Presidential Debate

Hey girls, the first presidential debate is on for tonight! Republican nominee John McCain had originally called to postpone the debate due to the recent financial problems and negotiations over a bail-out plan, but just announced this morning that he still plans to attend.

The debate will take place at the University of Mississippi starting at 9 pm eastern time. Be sure to tune in tonight to catch the action live on television!

Neat opportunity in the Boston area!

Hey girls! If you live near the Boston area, you may be interested in checking out this neat course at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Project New Media Literacies is hosting a course called "Creating Your Techno-biography" for teens in grades 7th - 12th. In the course, you will get an opportunity to explore new media technologies and digital technologies. Here are some specifics:

Dates: Every Saturday: Sept 27th through Nov 15th
Time: 3 - 5pm
Where: Meet Clement Chau at MIT's Building 10 Lobby
Map to Location: http://whereis.mit.edu/map-jpg?mapterms=10&mapsearch=go

"This Saturday's project: "A day in my life with digital media technology"
Instructor, Clement Chau has asked students to choose one day before this coming Saturday (so either Thursday or Friday if have not already done so), and take digital photos of every piece of technology they use beginning with when they wake up in the morning until they go to bed at night.

For example, if you wake up to an alarm clock, take a picture of it. If you use a hairdryer in the morning, take a picture of it. You like to watch TRL? Take a picture of you watching the show. And so on. We will be doing something fun with these photos. Remember to bring your camera and a USB cord."

For those of you who don't live near Boston but are interested in learning more about digital technology, look around your area for similar classes. Which new media technologies do you girls use? (Other than blogging here at orb28, of course!) What digital technologies such as digital cameras do you all use? Do you prefer using some digital media over traditional media?

Waking Up

One of my biggest school related fears finally happened. After hitting the snooze button on my cellphone alarm one too many times this morning, I eventually woke up at 9 am--for a 9 am midterm exam in one of my classes! Luckily I was able to make it to class in record time and was able to finish the entire test, but it occurred to me that I might want to figure out a better way to wake myself up!

What do you girls do to wake up each morning? Do you use an alarm clock, wake up naturally, or do you have a parent wake you up? Does your routine change on the weekends? Have you ever missed the bus or something important because you were sleeping?

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and gets a chance to rest up after a busy week!
